Former Argentine defender Silvio Marzolini, who later became Diego Maradona’s coach at Boca Juniors, died at the age of 79 on Friday in Buenos Aires.

Considered the best left back side of Boca Juniors, where he played from 1960 to 1972, Marzolini already had his statue in the central hall of the Bombonera, the legendary stadium of Boca. He won five champion titles with Boca between 1962 and 1970 and the National Cup in 1969.

With Argentina, Marzolini notably participated in the World Cups of 1962 in Chile and 1966 in England.

After coaching the All Boys in 1976, he took over the Boca team in 1981 and won the Metropolitan Championship with a young player by the name of Diego Maradona.

Marzolini had also coached Boca in 1995 for what was his last experience on a first division bench.
