In a recently recorded interview with Yu Planet, former Manchester United player Nemanja Matić reveals details about the lack of discipline at the club.
The Serbian footballer made 128 appearances for United between 2017 and 2022. He joined United from Chelsea, a club he had played for for many years. He was surprised by the contrast in discipline at the clubs, and claims that several United players were often late.
– At Chelsea the players behaved professionally, they were punctual and never arrived late for training, but at United it happened almost every day, he told Your Planet.
Matić says that during his time at United he became the head of an “internal disciplinary committee” of five people, to improve standards in the dressing room.
– Among the players who were always late were Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho and a couple of other players. The rest of us who were always on time were angry, so we decided to form some sort of internal disciplinary committee with me as president.
– I hung a sheet of paper on the wall where I documented the names of individuals who arrive late. In one particular season we collected around £75,000 in fines. We had planned to use the money to throw a party in London, but we didn’t because of the Covid outbreak.
