Former LPG Station Explosion in Crevedia: Owners Detained by General Prosecutor’s Office in Bucharest

The owner of the former LPG station that exploded in Crevedia, Ionuț Doldurea, and his associate were detained after being brought to hearings at the General Prosecutor’s Office in Bucharest.

UPDATE 22.21 The lawyer of the two owners and of the Flagas company claims that he learned from the press about the press release of the prosecutor’s office announcing that the two owners of the LPG station are suspects in the case of the Crevedia explosions.

He claimed that neither he nor his clients were called by the Prosecutor’s Office and did not know that they had to appear at the hearings.

He added that Doldurea and Stângă keep their promise to compensate the locals of Crevedia whose houses were destroyed and that he advised his clients not to make any public statements.

UPDATE 20.28 The owners of the LPG station in Crevedia were detained for 24 hours.

“During today, in the file regarding the fire that broke out on August 26, 2023 as a result of explosions that occurred in the locality of Crevedia in Dâmbovița county, the case prosecutor from the Forensic Criminal Investigation Section ordered the continuation of the criminal investigation and the detention of two defendants, administrators of a commercial company, under the aspect of committing the crime of culpable destruction that resulted in a disaster, prev. of art. 255 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code).

At the same time, in the case it was ordered to continue the criminal investigation against a legal person, a commercial company with its registered office in the municipality of Caracal, Olt county, under the aspect of committing the crime of culpable destruction which resulted in a disaster, prev. of art. 255 para. 1 and 2 Criminal Code”, announces a press release from the General Prosecutor’s Office.

“During September 30, 2020-August 26, 2023, in carrying out the object of activity and in its interest, as a result of the policy promoted by the decision-making factors in its management structure, respectively the two previously mentioned defendants, the commercial company operated systematically through the repeated violation of the legal provisions regarding the running of LPG fuel supply, transport, transshipment and storage operations (MAI Order No. 166 of July 27, 2010 and Order No. 73/1161/1999 on the approval of the “Design, Execution and operation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply systems for motor vehicles”, reference number NP 037/99), at the unauthorized work point located on Bucharest-Târgoviște Road, in Crevedia commune, Dâmbovița county.

This fact created the conditions for the outbreak, on August 26, 2023, at around 18.40, of a fire followed by several explosions, resulting from this triggering factor, which led to the death of 5 people up to this moment (the last one dying in the course of today) and the bodily injury of 54 people, as well as the destruction and degradation of some immovable and movable property, as well as some works, equipment, installations or their components, consequences that the management factors within it do not they foreseen, although they should and could foresee them.

In the case, four searches were carried out (at the headquarters of two legal entities and the residences of two natural persons), as a result of these procedural activities, several records, documents and storage media were seized that will be used during the criminal investigation. the prosecutors’ statement says.

Doldurea was brought to the Prosecutor’s Office with a warrant. His lawyer says that his client has not received any message notifying him that he is being summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office.

His associate, Cosmin Stângă, was also brought to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Asked what the charges were against the two, their lawyer said: I have no message right now. We will find out. I don’t know more.

Ionuț Doldurea, who is the son of the mayor of Caracal, did not want to give statements to journalists before entering the Prosecutor’s Office building.

Doldurea and Stângă are the shareholders of the company Flagas SRL, which owns the LPG station in Crevedia, which exploded last week. The station had been closed by the ISU in 2020, but was still operating as a warehouse.

5 people died and around 50 were injured in last Saturday’s blasts. As a result, 10 houses were destroyed and dozens more were damaged.

The two associates of the Flagas firm offered to pay all the damages and even to rebuild all the houses that were totally or partially destroyed.

A woman who lived near the LPG station and whose house was completely destroyed by the explosion said she called Doldurea to tell him that there was a strong smell of gas in the area.

“That’s exactly what he told me: my business has been suspended, bad people filed a complaint against me… the town hall and the fire department closed my business, I no longer work there,” said the woman.
