Several representatives of the Parti Québécois deplored, on Sunday, the death of the former MLA for Lotbinière Jean-Guy Paré at the age of 73.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Jean-Guy Paré, who died following a fight against cancer. Jean-Guy was deputy of the PQ from 1994 to 2003, then mayor of Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets, ”declared the head of the sovereignist formation, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, on Twitter.
“It is with sadness that I learned of the death of Jean-Guy Paré, also wrote deputy Pascal Bérubé on Twitter. A charming and very committed man. An exemplary activist of the independence cause. ”
Even though he had not been a member for a long time, he still had links with elected officials, as the PQ member for Jonquière Sylvain Gaudreault recalled.
“A man entirely devoted to his region and to the land of Quebec. We had another good exchange this summer, ”he said.
During his time in the National Assembly, Jean-Guy Paré was notably Chairman of the Public Finance Committee from 2002 to 2003.
After his defeat to Sylvie Roy from l’Action Démocratique du Québec (ADQ) in the 2003 election, Jean-Guy Paré worked as an executive advisor for the CEGEPs of Drummondville, Shawinigan, Trois-Rivières and Victoriaville.
He was also the President and CEO of the Fondation de l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 2010 and 2011, as well as the mayor of Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets from 2008 to 2013.
Before entering politics, Jean-Guy Paré made a name for himself as the head coach of the Les Diablos football team at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières from 1978 to 1983.
