The former long jumper Alexandra Wester enjoys sporting life outside of competitive sport. “I just want to take the pressure off. I just need to enjoy sport,” said the former Olympic participant in the “Berliner Morgenpost” (Sunday). The 27-year-old is currently in Mexico trying out new sports like boxing.
The German athletics championships at the beginning of June last year were a key experience. “There was the feeling that I’m not just a competitive athlete. I’m much more, and the time has come to get to know me as a whole person,” she said about the end of her career at the long jump pit.
In the summer of 2020, Wester and her boyfriend, basketball player Joshiko Saibou, took part in a demo against the Corona measures and spread conspiracy theories. She then lost her place in the squad of the German Athletics Association and some sponsors. Wester has since apologized on social media for her confusing public statements.
After the sponsors dropped out, Wester initially earned her money with modeling jobs and entered the real estate industry. It also manages and rents out real estate in Mexico. After boxing, extreme sports are on the agenda for Wester. She also wants to write a book about powerful women and promote her association “Smiling Kids of Africa”. This year the attempt should be successful for the club to be included in the Berlin Athletics Association.
