Former KPK Employees Face Challenges When Transitioning to Private Sector Employment

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – It is said that a number of former KPK employees were prevented from working in private companies.

This was revealed by former KPK senior investigator Novel Baswedan in GASPOL! which aired on YouTube Kompas.com, Saturday (5/8/2023).

“So, friends who have wanted to work in private (companies) in other places, there is an attempt to make it fail, so that you can’t (enter),” said Novel.

Without pointing fingers at who is allegedly behind the phenomenon, Novel said that the weakening of his colleagues who are now members of the Indonesia Calling (IM) 57+ Institute has been taking place systematically.

For certain reasons, they are also said to be unable to stand as entrepreneurs.

This situation was one of the reasons Novel, along with 57 other KPK dismissals, accepted an offer from National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo to become the state civil apparatus (ASN) at the National Police.

Even though the KPK and Polri have quite a dynamic history, Novel admits that he and other KPK dismissals do not hate anyone in the brown-shirted agency.

Novel is principled, only acts of corruption in all government institutions that he must fight.

“Therefore, I think I think the offer from the Chief of Police should be accepted,” said Novel.

Even though they are ASN Polri, said Novel, he and his colleagues will not have a career in the institution.

Novel only hopes that the existence of a former KPK employee in the National Police will be able to contribute to the practice of eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, General Listyo himself plans to form a Work Unit (Satker) to handle corruption prevention.

“The National Police chief thinks that we want to use his competence and expertise to take care of this field,” said Novel.

It is known that a number of senior investigators and KPK employees were fired from the KPK because they were declared not to have passed the National Insights Test (TWK).

Some of them are investigators handling major cases such as the alleged corruption in the Covid-19 social assistance (Bansos) which ensnared the Minister of Social Affairs as well as a PDI-P cadre, Juliari Peter Batubara.

The TWK was held as a requirement in the process of changing the status of KPK employees to ASN. This status change refers to the revised KPK Law.
