Satya Pal Malik, the former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a witness in a case involving alleged corruption by Reliance General Insurance. The case centers around the company’s involvement in a medical insurance scheme for Jammu and Kashmir government employees and their families. Mr Malik cancelled the contract in 2018 when he was Governor, citing fraud in the scheme. In the First Information Report (FIR), the CBI named Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Reinsurance Brokers as accused in the alleged scam. The scheme, which covered about 3.5 lakh employees, was rolled out in September 2018 and cancelled within a month by Mr Malik. The CBI has asked Mr Malik for “certain clarifications” and has asked for his presence at their guesthouse in central Delhi on April 28th.
