London: the former Italian footballer Gianluca Vialli (58 years) has died. He was suffering from cancer. He died on Friday morning while being treated in a London hospital. The news of the star’s death was released by the Italian news agency ANSA.
Gianluca was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 and was cured of the disease in 2020. But in 2021, cancer won him over again.
Gianluca began his career with Italian club Sampdoria and after eight seasons moved to Juventus in 1992. He also took part in winning the Champions League title with the club. He joined Chelsea in 1996 and became a player and manager of the club in 1998. He Led Chelsea to League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup triumphs. He also won the FA Cup for Chelsea in 2000.
He played 59 matches for Italy and scored 16 goals. Gianluca was on the support staff when his teammate Roberto Mancini became the coach of the Italian team. He was on the support staff when Italy won the Euro Cup in 2020.
