Former Italian Airline Stewardess Takes Off Uniforms to Remain Underwear : Okezone Travel

AIRLINE bankrupt italian national airline, Alitalia, made its last flight last week after 74 years of continuous service.

The last scheduled flight was a return journey from Cagliari to Rome, which landed shortly after 11pm on Thursday 14 October.

Launch Euro News, Alitalia has been in debt for more than a decade and went into special administration in 2017.

The airline has been replaced by a new national carrier, ITA, which received 1.35 billion Euros of government funding to complete the takeover.

This decision was met with anger, after it was revealed that ITA would only employ 3,000 of Alitalia’s approximately 10,000 employees. Union officials say those who work for ITA are paid much less.

Stewardess take off uniform

In the weeks before Alitalia expires, para air hostess carry out strikes and protests.

“We are here to first express our pain and also solidarity with all our colleagues who were forced to sign such humiliating contracts,” said Cristina Poggesi, one of the air hostess participants in the action in the City of Rome this week.

Former airline cabin crew Alitalia took off their old uniforms to oppose the takeover.

Standing on Capitoline Hill, the women lowered their shoulder bags onto the stone pavement, before slowly removing their jackets, skirts, and high heels.

Wearing only their underwear, they shouted, “We are Alitalia!” simultaneously.

The former employee intends to pressure the Italian government into extending unemployment benefits for another five years.

Among its routes, ITA plans to operate flights to New York, Tokyo, Boston and Miami from Rome and Milan. European destinations will also include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Geneva.
