Former Israeli Footballer Yossi Benayoun’s Family Survives Hamas Attack in Kibbutz Beeri

Hours of anguish for Yossi Benayoun, the former Israeli footballer for Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, and his family, residing in Kibbutz Beeri, in the south of Israel, near the border with the Gaza Strip.

Last Saturday they faced a cruel attack. Fortunately, everyone survived this terrorist act perpetrated by Hamas.

The initial target of this Palestinian organization, which declares itself jihadist, nationalist and Islamist, according to the Israeli sports newspaper Ynet Sportwas Benayoun’s brother-in-law, Sharon Shabo, publishes newspaper AS.

The events unfolded as follows: Shabo went out on his bicycle yesterday morning, but upon returning home, he encountered a group of terrorists who opened fire on him.

Despite being shot in the arm, he managed to escape by jumping off his bicycle and hiding in a nearby field.

The situation became even more dramatic when the terrorists tried to enter the family home in the Kibbutz itself, where there were minors. During this attempted assault, the family took shelter in a small warehouse on the top floor and one of the members contacted Benayoun, alerting him to the presence of “terrorists in the living room.”

“Please save us,” Shaked pleaded. When communication with the former soccer player and his nephew was lost, three Hamas fighters discovered the hiding place where an adult and several minors were located. Shaked demonstrated a heroic act by counterattacking and neutralizing the attackers.

The rest of the family members were forced to jump from the roof during the night, when the terrorists set fire to the house with grenades. They ran towards the soldiers who had come to their rescue.

Benayoun shared his amazement: “I’m shocked, it was a great miracle. (…) I lived the most difficult day of my life. “I had already assumed that everyone was dead, but then a miracle happened thanks to my heroic nephew,” he told Ynet Sport.

It is important to note that Israel is in the middle of a war after a surprise combined attack by Palestinian militias from the Gaza Strip, led by the Islamist movement Hamas, who launched thousands of rockets and infiltrated Israeli territory on Saturday.

This unprecedented attack has left a tragic toll with more than 600 dead and thousands injured in just one day. (D)
