Former Inter Milan President Speaks Out on Jose Mourinho’s Firing by AS Roma and the Complicated Situation in Rome

Former President Inter Milan Massimo Moratti also sad Jose Mourinho fired AS Roma. He saw that the situation in Rome was complicated.

Mourinho was fired by AS Roma following recent bad results. Yellow and red only won two wins in the last seven matches, swallowing four defeats.

The last two matches, which ended in defeat, are believed to have strengthened Roma boss Dan Friedkin’s decision to remove Mourinho. Because Roma lost in the derby against Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and lost 1-3 to AC Milan in Serie A.

Roma then appointed former captain Daniele De Rossi to handle the team until the end of the season. He has the tough task of improving the team’s performance in the midst of various difficult situations.

Roma is facing a series of problems this season, including a storm of injuries, spending restrictions by Financial Fair Play (FFP), and the departure of a number of players for the 2023 African Cup of Nations and Asian Cup. In terms of injuries, Roma this season has lost Tammy Abraham, Chris Smalling, and Marash Kumbulla is practically all year round.

Meanwhile Renato Sanches and Paulo Dybala have repeatedly been sidelined due to physical problems. The problem became more complicated because in January-February, they lost Houssem Aouar, Sardar Azmoun and Evan Ndicka who were defending their respective national teams.

What is more complicated is that Roma cannot freely shop because they are limited by FFP regulations. They are only allowed by UEFA to spend 1.5 million Euros, unless they can sell players first.

Moratti believes that the complexity of this situation means that Mourinho cannot work optimally. Not to mention that a number of players are also having difficulty shining.

“I was very sad to hear the news that Mourinho had been fired, because I know his professionalism and how much he cares. It must be a big disappointment for him,” Moratti told LaPresse, quoted by Football Italia.

“There were several factors that played a role and meant that things didn’t work out: the balance of the team, some players performed worse than expected, and there were a number of injuries,” added the man who recruited Mourinho to handle Inter Milan.
