Former Infinity Ward developer: ‘Call of Duty franchise is in ruins’

If it’s up to Bowling, former Infinity Ward creative strategist, the Call of Duty franchise has to be reinvented again. The series is criticized on Twitter, Bowling says below how it should be tackled and what is going wrong at the moment. Bowling argues that the franchise “must be rebuilt from the ground up.”

Bowling continues to criticize the current course Activision is taking with Call of Duty.

“The focus needs to be put back on the gameplay, rather than the games being an easy way to make money. We used to see our players as a community, now we treat them more like consumers. We used that community for feedback on our maps, but now the consumer is being used as feedback in the marketplace”

Robert Bowling

It seems that Bowling doesn’t like Call of Duty’s changes, which is not surprising since many gamers agree with him. Many players are not happy about Call of Duty Vanguard, the most recent title in the franchise. The game is full of bugs, and looked more like an easy earning model.

What is Bowling doing now?

Unfortunately for fans, Bowling is no longer working on the Call of Duty franchise, but maybe Activision will get to work with this free feedback. Bowling himself now works at a game studio which he and Twitch streamer Dr. Disrespect has set up. Also Quinn DelHoyo, former developer Halo Infinite, has joined this game studio. Together they are working on a new multiplayer game.
