6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) remembering the days when he still held power as president. SBY said that he was committed to using power in a good way.
This was conveyed by SBY when giving a speech at the inauguration of the SBY ANI Museum & Gallery in Pacitan, Thursday (17/8/2023). SBY initially shared his memory of this power in front of his two former vice presidents, Boediono and Jusuf Kalla.
“I also want to share my memories with all my friends. With Mr. JK, Mr. Boediono and all those who used to take on government duties together,” said SBY.
At that time, SBY said he wanted to do his best. He did not want to complain and blame the past.
“The first memory is that we used to want to do our best. We want to overcome all the nation’s problems. Without complaining. Because that is our duty. Our responsibility. Our obligation. Without having to blame the past,” he said.
SBY also revealed that he was always concerned with how to achieve goals. He did not want to follow Machiavelli’s teachings which justify any means to achieve the goal.
“In carrying out the mission. Choosing to use the proper method. We care about the way to achieve a goal. We do not choose an improper way. As many people have said, who follow Machiavelli’s teachings, he said, what is called justifies any means,” he said.
SBY also emphasized that he did not want to abuse the power he had. For him, it’s about the meaning of power.
“We really don’t want to abuse the power we have. How do we interpret power? The meaning of power. The concept of power. The all reject of power and use of power,” he said.
“This means that we, as politicians at that time, wanted to gain power legally and lawfully,” he continued.
Therefore, SBY reminded again that he wanted to use power properly. It’s not just about gaining power.
“And after we get that power with God’s permission in the form of a mandate and trust from the people, we also want to use that power in a good way. It’s not just a way to get power, but in using that power we want to be right. Good and right,” he said.
