Former Indonesian National Team Coach Benny Dollo Dies

Sad news came from Indonesian football. Former Indonesian national team coach Benny Dollo has died.

Benny Dollo passed away at the age of 72. The sad news was uploaded by the Indonesian Professional Footballers Association (APPI) on social media, also by his former foster children at Persita Tangerang and Arema Firman Utina.

“Our condolences for the passing of Coach Benny Dollo,” said APPI.

“May the families left behind be given perseverance.”

“Goodbye, Coach. Thank you for your contribution to Indonesian football.”

Benny Dollo in July last year was undergoing treatment at the South Tangerang Hospital due to a number of illnesses. At that time, it was reported that he was experiencing stomach, kidney and liver problems, apart from being positive for COVID-19.

Benny Dollo has been poor in the Indonesian League since the Galatama era. He brought Pelita Jaya to the Galatama championship in 1988/1989, 1990 and 1993/1994.

Together with Arema, he won the 2004 Indonesian League and then the 2005 and 2006 Copa Indonesia. The man who is familiarly called Bendol also handled the Indonesian national team three times in 2000-2001, 2008-2010, and in 2015 as an interim coach, with the 2008 Independence Cup title.
