He looks like a broken old man: former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
Former American film mogul Harvey Weinstein is on trial again after his sentence in New York. At the start of the trial in Los Angeles, the twelve jurors will be selected starting Monday (6:30 pm CEST). The 70-year-old was charged with 11 counts, including rape and other sexual assaults.
It concerns the allegations of five women over a period from 2004 to 2013. Their names are paraphrased and anonymized as “Jane Doe # 1 – # 5”. Most of the incidents are believed to have taken place in Beverly Hills hotels. As before, Weinstein denied any guilt in this case. Sexual acts were always consensual.
23 years of imprisonment
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in March 2020 for rape and sexual assault, among other things. The sentence marked a milestone in the history of law.
In the high-profile case that helped spark the #MeToo movement since 2017, the jury believed several women’s testimonies, despite Weinstein’s protests of innocence and a lack of physical evidence. More than 80 women accused Weinstein of sexual assault during #MeToo.
The producer of films such as “The English Patient”, “Pulp Fiction”, “Good Will Hunting” or “Gangs of New York” is currently in a Los Angeles prison. British prosecutors also approved the charges against Weinstein in June. (SDA)
