Former GAM Commander, Izil Azharbecame a suspect and was detained KPK in the case of gratuities worth IDR 32 billion. Izil Azhar apologized for his corruption.
The KPK held a press conference regarding the arrest of Izil Azhar, who has been a fugitive for 4 years tonight. After the press conference, Izil Azhar was taken to the KPK detention center to be detained for the next 20 days. Izil Azhar did not comment much, he only apologized.
“Yes, I apologize,” said Izil Azhar when leaving the KPK’s Red and White building, South Jakarta, Wednesday (25/1/2023).
Construction of the Izil Azhar Gratification Case
This case began when the former Governor of Aceh, Irwandi Yusuf, was carrying out a pier construction project in the Sabang Aceh area with state budget funding. Irwandi then received gratuity money from the management of PT NS. This money is known as a ‘safety guarantee’.
“When the project was running, Irwandi Yusuf, in his position as governor, allegedly received money as gratuities under the term ‘security guarantee’,” said KPK deputy chairman Johanis Tanak in a press conference at the KPK building this evening.
From here Izil Azhar’s role begins. He, who is a confidant of Irwandi Yusuf, is suspected of being an intermediary for receiving gratuities from the Governor of Aceh for the 2007-2012 period.
“The suspect IA (Izil Azhar) was his confidant to become an intermediary for receiving money from Heru Sulaksono and Zainudin Hamid. The suspect IA became Irwandi Yusuf’s confidant because he had previously been part of the Aceh governor election campaign team in 2007,” said Johanis.
The distribution of gratuity money through Izil Azhar occurred during the period from 2008 to 2011. The total gratuity money received by Irwandi Yusuf through Izil Azhar was Rp. 32.4 billion.
“The transfer of money through the suspect IA was carried out in stages from 2008 to 2011 with nominal values ranging from Rp. 10 million to Rp. 3 billion, totaling Rp. 32.4 billion,” said Johanis.
“The gratuity amounting to Rp. 32.4 billion will then be used for Irwandi Yusuf’s operational funds and will also be enjoyed by suspect IA,” he added.
Izil Azhar has been a fugitive from the KPK since November 30 2018. Four years later, Izil was arrested in the Banda Aceh area on Tuesday (24/1).
For his actions, Izil Azhar was charged with Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes Juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code. Izil Azhar will be detained for the next 20 days at the KPK detention center.
