The big family of the France team has lost one of its own. Former French international Christian Dalger has died aged 73.
Sad news for the France team. Christian Dalger died this Saturday following a long illness. The native of Nîmes, was 73 years old. He had only gone to the Blues. The winger who passed through Toulon and Monaco, who had almost two decades at the highest level between 1966 and 1985, only had six selections for the France team.
However, he was at the World Cup in Argentina in 1978 and had thrilled the country a few months earlier. The one who was then playing in the Principality indeed scored the third goal against Bulgaria in November 1977 (3-1), allowing the Blues to validate their qualification for the Argentinian World Cup.
18 goals and 26 assists in one season
Christian Dalger was then walking on water. His 1977-78 season was the finest. He was one of the great craftsmen with Delio Onnis of the title of champion of France won with Monaco, just back in the elite. With no less than 18 goals and 26 assists, the powerful winger had panicked the counters like never before and marked the spirits.
Two years later, after winning the Coupe de France, Christian Dalger left Le Rocher to return to Toulon, then in D3. He started his career there at just 16 years old before joining Monaco five years later to score 89 goals in 333 matches and nine seasons, becoming a legend for the Principality club. It was the same in Toulon since he was part of the adventure that allowed Sporting to return to the first division in 1983, two years before becoming its coach.
