— Michael, how did you become an assistant to the deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Andriy Sheketa?
– Everything is very simple. We knew each other for a long time, once we were together in the East of Ukraine on a volunteer mission – we drove cars there. Andrei constantly organizes sports events and said that he needed advice. We started talking and he asked me to attend some of his events. I agreed. It was about three or four months ago. We recently met in Uzhgorod, drank coffee and he said: “I want to be specific”, and offered me to officially become his assistant, I agreed.
— As far as I know, the work of an assistant to a deputy is not paid.
— That’s right, I will work on a voluntary basis. I have no political ambitions! So write it down. For now… (Laughs.)
— Well, why not? Shevchenko, Blokhin and other famous football players were in politics. Vitali Klitschko is now the mayor of Kyiv, even Usyk started talking about the presidency.
– I value my reputation very much, and there is a lot of dirt in politics. I know many deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council and I see what is happening there. The system simply eats people, even those who come with good intentions, and they all turn into crests, as the president said in a famous film. I do not promise, everything is possible, but for now I am happy in the football field. When I look at what is happening in Uzhgorod, I want to change something for the better, but this requires a large and strong team of like-minded people.
