Sad news hit football Slovakia over the weekend. A former player who also worked in the top competition in the past has passed away. He was only 39 years old.
Ján Ovšianik has been a part of 1. FC Košice since the summer of 1999, where he also experienced the infamous era of Italian owner Gianni Boriero. The previously successful club, crowned by participation in the group stage of the Champions League, resembled a sinking ship at the time.
In 2002, he left for Ružomberok, then played for several Eastern Slovak clubs – Spišská Nová Ves, Humenné, Vranov nad Topľou, Zámutov and Vyšný Žipov.
The Vranov club announced his death on Facebook. According to the information he brought Sportnethe was hospitalized in the local hospital on November 30, he was diagnosed with inflammation of the stomach and pancreas.
Ovšianik’s death shook the football community in the east of Slovakia, representatives of many clubs, former and current players, expressed grief over the loss of a young man.
The last farewell to Ján Ovšianik will take place on Tuesday, December 5 at 2 p.m. in the House of Mourning in Vranov nad Topľou.
