Finland’s former president Martti Ahtisaari has died
Former president of Finland Martti Ahtisaari has died, reports the Finnish broadcaster YLE. He lived to be 86 years old.
Ahtisaari was Finnish president in the period 1994 to 2000. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his efforts as an international peace broker in several conflicts, between those in Aceh province in Indonesia.
In September 2021, Ahtisaari retired from public office due to dementia.
