Former Finance Minister’s Son and Funeral Agent Remanded in Custody for Brutal Murder in Sofia

After the brutal murder of a 49-year-old man, the Sofia City Court remanded the two defendants in custody – the son of former finance minister Stoyan Alexandrov and a funeral agent from Sofia. According to the magistrates, there is circumstantial evidence against them of the murder, but not of the kidnapping of the man.

In front of the court, the son of the former finance minister, Stoyan Alexandrov, announced that just as years ago “the prosecutor’s office messed with” his father, now the same is happening to him. He remained silent in front of the media. The defendants’ lawyers also did not comment on the court’s decision. “At a later stage, we have something to tell you,” pointed out one of the defenders.

One of the addresses that the investigators searched was a house in the Nadezhda district of the capital. It is still sealed. The 49-year-old is believed to have been tortured and shot dead at the property, which is on a quiet street. Neighbors say the police were there. According to them, a son and his mother lived in the house until recently. It was now uninhabitable. According to information from Nova TV sources, the property is owned by the accused Petar Alexandrov’s company.

Permanent arrest for those accused of the brutal murder in Sofia

It is still being determined what weapon the 49-year-old was killed with. Experts claim that the shots were most likely fired accidentally while the debtor was being threatened with a weapon.

“In my opinion, the first shot was accidental in the body, the second was also accidental, in the thigh. The gun most likely fired two shots in a row. The second was out of fear. If someone wants to kill someone, he will not shoot him in the lower part of the body”, said Prof. Milen Ivanov – former deputy rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

For now, it remains unclear how much the victim’s debt was to the son of the former minister.
