A very smart move by the caretaker minister to say: “Here is the budget with the things that are currently there, you see if you are for the Eurozone or not”. This is how former finance minister Simeon Dyankov commented on the budget submitted for 2023 by the service ministry in the studio of “This Saturday”.
He stated that there are three steps to get within the 3% deficit.
“The biggest one is the rapid removal of energy subsidies for businesses. This is somewhere around BGN 7.5-8 billion for this year. The return of 20% VAT for restaurateurs. This will add 1 billion to the budget. The third step is at least a second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, which is currently not included in the presented budget,” Dyankov said.
According to him, however, the chances of receiving such a payment by the end of 2023 are less than 5%.
“I’m not optimistic. I don’t think it’s easy to have a cabinet. Rather, we are preparing for new elections” – this is how Dyankov answered the question of whether he thinks there will be a regular cabinet.
