Ferrari left the circuit at Albert Park without a single point, and thus failed to fulfill the high pre-season expectations even after three races. After all, shortly before the start of the new season, the president of Ferrari Benedetto Vigna let it be heard that the new single-seater will be unprecedentedly fast. However, the opposite is true, and that is why the voices of various critics are beginning to be heard, who do not leave a single thread dry about the Italian team. One of them is former F1 driver Timo Glock. He declared that, according to him, the stable from Maranello is an absolute disappointment of the current year.
A hard clash with reality, such is the start of the new season from the point of view of Ferrari fans. Despite the promises, there are still problems with reliability and we must not forget the poor race pace.
In addition, there were unfortunate events in Melbourne – collisions between the two Ferrari drivers, which had unfortunate consequences. Charles Leclerc ended up in the gravel after contact with Lance Stroll, and Carlos Sainz fared no better when he paid the price for an incident with Fernando Alonso that earned him a five-second penalty.
The critical reaction of the professional and lay public was not long in coming. In the column for Sky Sports Germany the former racer of the queen of motorsport also expressed dissatisfaction with the speed and performance of Ferrari Timo Glock. “Ferrari left Australia without a single point and for me it’s an absolute disappointment the way the season has gone so far.”
“When it comes to the pace of the red cars, everything seems to be wrong. What happened to Charles Leclerc proves that there is a high risk of an accident after a bad qualification. At least Carlos Sainz showed good speed at times and performed some nice overtaking maneuvers. The penalty at the end was unfortunate, but justified.” assessed the 41-year-old GP2 world champion.
According to Glock especially one person can reverse the current situation in the team. “This is certainly not the start to the season that Ferrari fans and the team were hoping for. Now it’s up to Fred Vasseur to quickly set a new direction and get the team back on track.”
At the same time, the native of Germany buried the hopes of tifosi towards the next event, which will take place at the end of April in Azerbaijan. “In my opinion, the fact that the field was more balanced in Melbourne was due to the characteristics of the track. In Baku, there are more corners and long straights, where the DRS effect of Red Bull will show. Therefore, I think that there will be a bigger gap between Red Bull and its competition in Baku. But the question is: who will bring the first improvements and how will they turn out?’
