Former F1 Driver Ralf Schumacher Discusses Lando Norris’ Possible Move to Red Bull and Young Driver Dynamics

Ralf Schumacher, former F1 driver, sees Lando Norris leaving for Red Bull, if the Brit believes he can also beat Max Verstappen. Schumacher also finds it amazing to see how brotherly young drivers interact with each other these days.

Norris is still under contract with McLaren until the end of 2025, but Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has previously said that there will be a lot of interest in him when the young Briton’s contract expires. Red Bull is also interested, especially now that there is no clarity about Pérez’s future with the Austrian team. “Norris has a permanent contract until the end of 2025. After that he will be very interesting for many teams,” Schumacher also says, according to PlanetF1. “Lando Norris will certainly look for a new challenge at some point, but is now the right time?”

Schumacher also answered that question, and says it probably depends on two factors whether Norris goes to Red Bull. “It depends a bit on the money and maybe whether he believes he can beat the best driver in the world at the moment, Max Verstappen.” Verstappen is currently having a dominant season, having already won thirteen times. The Dutchman is expected to win his third world title during the Qatar sprint race.

Schumacher: ‘It almost seems as if Norris and Sainz are still teammates’

Schumacher also reflected on the special moment at the end of the race in Singapore, when Carlos Sainz held Norris in his DRS zone, allowing the two to work together against Mercedes’ attack. According to the former F1 driver, such a collaboration, and how young drivers such as Verstappen and Norris also interact with each other, would have been unthinkable in his time. “I find it difficult to estimate, because when I look at how we interacted then, unlike today’s drivers, it is a different dynamic,” said Schumacher. ‘You almost get the impression that Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz are still teammates on Sunday. After the race (in Singapore, ed.) it was incredible: Carlos Sainz was there with his former team (McLaren, ed.) and talked to them. It was interesting to see how close they were.”
