/ world today news/ Former European Commissioner for Competition Nellie Kroes had an offshore company registered in the Bahamas during her mandate, European newspapers revealed.
According to documents obtained by the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, Ms. Kreuz was a director of the Bahamas-registered company Mint Holdings Ltd. During the period from 4 July 2000 to 1 October 2009, she was the European Commissioner for Competition from 2004 to 2009, before becoming Deputy. President of the European Commission in 2014. According to EU rules, “Commission members may not engage in any other professional activity, whether paid or not. At the beginning of their mandate, European Commissioners must not only give up any management functions, but also note in a special public register all those held by them during the previous 10 years. Former Dutch transport minister Nellie Kroes said she left Mint Holdings in 2002 and left the firm in 2004 at the start of her first term as EU commissioner. /AFP
