Former Estonian Tennis Player Anett Kontaveit Retires to Focus on Education and Future Plans

Former Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit has stated that she does not plan to play tennis again in the near future.

The 28-year-old tennis player unexpectedly announced that she would retire in 2023, despite being 27 years old at the time, to focus on her education. On her Instagram social network, a user asked her if she would be interested in becoming a tennis coach again. “Are you going to work as a tennis coach or something?” a follower of hers asked her.

In response, Kontaveit wrote that he has no such plans: “At the moment, no. I’m still finishing uni and then I’ll see what comes next.”

Kontaveit, in a recent interview with WTA insider, stated that he plans to continue his studies. “I’m studying psychology at Indiana University. I’ll be taking more classes, so I’ll have more things to do. I hope to take spontaneous trips. I have to find friends who don’t work. It’s very difficult,” she says.

Kontaveit ended her career after winning six WTA titles. She also became world number two in June 2022. Her best performance in a Grand Slam was in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2020, where she lost to Romanian Simona Halep, former world number one, by 6 -1 and 6-1.
