Former Emmendingen savings bank boss Hartmut Ott died – Emmendingen

As the band XX-Cult announces on their website, their band member Hartmut Ott has died. Ott was regional director of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau until 2018.

Hartmut Ott is dead. “After many years together, we have to say goodbye to my father and our guitarist Hartmut “Hardy”. Thank you for the wonderful time we were able to spend together on and off stage. We miss you!” says the homepage of the cover band XX-Cult, in which Ott played for more than 15 years. The lines were written by his son Chris, the band’s keyboard player.

In Emmendingen, many people associate Hartmut Ott, who was born in 1954, with the Sparkasse, for which he worked for 47 years; most recently as head of the main office on the market square. When he retired in 2018 at the age of 63, Ott was regional director of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau.

From apprentice to regional director

In 1970, the man from Rheinhausen began his training after reading in the Badische Zeitung that the district savings bank in Emmendingen was looking for apprentices. He goes through different departments and quickly realizes that it is the contact with the customer that makes his work valuable, even if it was sometimes challenging and not always easy. Varied years in the company followed. Ott himself said when he left that he had grown with the Sparkasse.

No time for boredom

Ott wasn’t afraid of retirement. “I’ll look it up in my calendar” was his typical saying according to XX-Cult. Spending time with the family, watching the grandchildren grow up, doing things at home and, last but not least, performing with the band prevented boredom. Ott loved music. He played in numerous bands in the region. In his early days with XX-Cult, he initially supported the band with the technology before picking up the guitar himself. He and his bandmate Beppo often got the crowd going. “We can’t understand it and it’s hard to put into words. We still had so many plans together,” his son continues on the band’s website. Only one thing is certain for the four musicians and singers: “That’s exactly how we want and will remember you.”
