The AKP politician and psychologist from Vestfold was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few weeks ago, he tells Klassekampen.
Sjue belonged to the top management of the ML movement for many years and was editor of Klassekampen from 1973 to 1977. He then worked as a journalist in the newspaper until the end of the 90s. He later worked as a writer and senior lecturer in journalism at Oslo University College.
He says that he wants to contribute to greater transparency about dementia diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
– This is also a societal problem because it is a disease with great burdens. I have been a public figure for several decades and, among other things, have been involved in training many cohorts of journalists. Since it has been an important part of my project to gain greater transparency about hidden conditions, I get to contribute my part about a disease that has been kept in the dark to a far too large extent, says Sjue.
– If by telling my story I can contribute to countering a feeling of shame in others who have dementia, then much of the purpose has been achieved, he says further.
