Former Drug Lord Fabio Ochoa Released in US

After​ serving 26 years in a U.S. prison, 67-year-old Fabio Ochoa Vásquez was released this morning, according ​to police sources.

U.S. authorities informed their Colombian counterparts of Ochoa’s release and confirmed he is currently in the custody of ​a federal agency. While the deportation process to Colombia is underway, authorities are verifying if he has any outstanding legal matters.

“Fabio ochoa Vásquez did not request asylum in ⁣the United​ states because ‌he is⁣ the most interested⁣ in returning to the country,” a source revealed. “According to his lawyers, he has no outstanding accounts and‌ would be released.”

Fabio Ochoa, an associate of Pablo Escobar and co-founder of ‌the Medellín cartel, spent nearly‍ 26 years ⁣in a U.S. prison for drug trafficking. Initially sentenced to 30‌ years for trafficking tons‍ of cocaine to the United States, Ochoa’s sentence was reduced through cooperation with authorities.

Ochoa was ‍convicted of ⁣sending over 30 tons⁣ of pure cocaine to‍ the U.S. between 1997 and 1999. As one of the founding members of the Medellín cartel alongside the infamous‌ Pablo Escobar Gaviria, Ochoa, along with his three older brothers ‌Juan David, Jorge Luis, and Martha Nieves, played a significant role in the cartel’s⁤ operations.

Among the charges against‍ Ochoa​ in the U.S. was the murder of Barry Seal in Febuary 1986. Seal, a pilot ⁤who had worked for ⁢the cartel, ‍became an informant for the Drug Enforcement Governance (DEA).

Fabio Ochoa Vásquez was captured by Colombian National⁤ Police in October 1999 and extradited to​ the United States in August 2001.
