Former Dota 2 Star Tommy Taiga Le Opens Up about Gambling Addiction and Plans for Comeback

Former member of the OG Dota 2 roster Tommy Taiga Le admitted that he faced some difficulties after leaving the team. He published a large post about personal problems associated with gambling addiction on Twitter.

It took me a while to get back here, but I finally got up the courage to share with you guys the things I’m most ashamed of, the things I regret. I hope that once I post this I can finally move forward and put this all behind me as it was a very traumatic experience.

I’m sorry to anyone who will be disappointed in me after reading this, and I’m also grateful to the people who supported me. <...> When I started to lose my passion for eSports and Dota, I lost my way. I started spending more time thinking about my future.

Suddenly my life was turned upside down and gradually became worse and worse. <...>

I got involved in something that is uncharacteristic for me, namely gambling. I have always maintained the principles of never getting involved in such things, as I know the negative impact it has on a person’s life. I started gambling after TI11. At first [ставки] to the FIFA World Cup, later – basketball, tennis and, even worse, casinos.

Every day was a nightmare, I thought about what I had lost. <...> Everything about me changed: my principles, behavior and even my personality, I didn’t feel like myself at all. Looking back, I still feel disgusted with myself and it took me a long time to forgive myself for it.

Taiga explained that under no circumstances should you keep problems to yourself, otherwise things could get worse. Le thanked his fans and loved ones for their support and noted that without them he would not have been able to overcome his addiction. In addition, the e-sportsman announced his return to the professional scene; he signed a contract with an unknown team.

I needed to break free from it, put it all behind me, share it with you guys and especially those who are struggling with addiction but have kept it all to themselves.

You are not alone. I’ve learned that even if you’re at rock bottom, especially when dealing with addiction, drugs, alcohol or gambling, don’t be silent. It’s normal to feel ashamed, it’s a sign that you’re aware of your problem, but please don’t let it build up to the point where it explodes.

It’s hard for you to see what’s around you because you’re stuck in a cage, you’ve put yourself in it, and there seems to be no way out. You don’t see that there are people who truly care about you. No one with a heart will laugh at you for dealing with mental illness. Gambling addiction is very serious and dangerous. If you need someone to talk to, please contact someone close to you, or you can also contact me via private messages.

I lost more than I earned in my entire career. This was after I was left without a team.

However, after the break I was given, I don’t want it to end this way. I have regained my love and passion for eSports, motivated to return to the stage as a player if I am given the chance to prove myself again. I’ve given it six to seven years and it’s something I want to keep doing until my body and mind give up. Life has many surprises and many opportunities ahead, and after coming out like this, I want to once again share this journey with all of you and hope that you will still respect me not only as a player, but also as a person who has flaws.

Now I will start spending more time in Dota and on streams in order to return to my old hobbies and devote myself to the new team from another region that I will join. Thanks everyone for reading this.

The esports organization OG announced the termination of cooperation with the Norwegian support on October 12. The reasons for his departure were not reported at the time.
