Viktor Bryukhanov was appointed director of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1970. After the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, he was fired from his post. Two years later, together with the ex-chief engineer of the station, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and after 5 years he was released early. Since 1992, he worked at the State Enterprise Ukrinterenergo.
