This was stated by the former director of Kozloduy NPP Yordan Yordanov to BNR. Kozloduy NPP is trying to break into the free market, but it does not sell electricity, but sells through intermediaries. One intermediary is NEK, and the other intermediary is private individuals who, by becoming intermediaries, increase the price of electricity, he explained.
According to him, an important moment in the strategy is the electricity exchange, where the enterprises that produce electricity should go out and sell. The market determines the price of electricity. The lack of a strategy and the electricity exchange leads to the fact that the price of electricity is constantly artificially raised by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, said Yordanov. According to him, the system has been wrong for many years, and DKEVR, which determines prices, is a socialist organization.
Yordanov believes that it is important to sign the project for the modernization of the 5th and 6th reactors of the Kozloduy NPP as soon as possible, “because already the construction of replacement capacities, in this case as planned for the 7th and 8th block, requires a period of 10-15 years”.
The new executive director of the Kozloduy NPP, Dimitar Angelov, previously stated that he expects a contract to continue the life of the 5th and 6th units of the Kozloduy NPP by the end of the month. If this happens, the implementation is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. “I cannot say why Genov was removed. When I was there, they had no intention of releasing Ivan Genov, because it was expected that he would remain on the board of directors and that we would work together, have continuity and jointly decide the future of the plant. For unfortunately, he categorically refused, so I didn’t have the opportunity to ask why Genov was released, and I was surprised,” Angelov explained the surprising change in the leadership of the NPP.
Angelov also commented on the construction of the 7th unit by “Westinghouse”: I believe that it is right to build the 7th unit at the Kozloduy NPP, of course under favorable conditions for the country. What will be the decision of what should be done is not within my competence. This is within the competence of the government, which must decide, Angelov sent.
