The former director of an organization that made children’s wishes come true has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for fornication and making child pornography, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). TBS with compulsory treatment has also been demanded against him.

The 55-year-old man from Almere is suspected of abusing thirteen boys, some of whom during his work for the Kanjer Wens Foundation. This now defunct organization was committed to fulfilling the wishes of sick children. The abuse is said to have taken place in the period between 2006 and 2021. The youngest victims were 9 years old.

For the Public Prosecution Service, it is important that these often involved children who were extra vulnerable, due to their illness or a complicated home situation. “It is almost impossible to be more vulnerable and yet the suspect has unleashed his sexual desires on the group.”

Coercive man

Justice speaks of an “enthusiastic but compelling man who won the trust of children and their parents by going on fun outings and giving nice gifts.” A visit to a swimming pool or football match often ended with a sleepover at the man’s home, according to the Public Prosecution Service.

He would then sleep in the same bed with children and abuse them. In other cases, he allegedly abused children during car rides or when they sat on his lap.

The investigation against the man started after two reports were received by the police in 2021. In both cases, the children were children who had told their parents or care providers that they had been sexually abused by the man.

In the period that followed, new reports and reports were received, including incidents from the period before the man worked at Kanjer Wens.

Advocaat: trial by media

The man’s lawyer calls the statements unbelievable and says that a report was only filed after the case came into the media, writes Broadcasting Flevoland . He contradicts almost all accusations. The man only acknowledges that he had sex with what he believes was a 16-year-old boy, of which images were taken.

The lawyer believes the Public Prosecution Service’s demand of twelve years in prison is far too high and unreasonable. She says that the case has had many consequences for the man and his family and speaks of one trial by mediabecause the fornication case has been extensively covered in the press.

The judge will make a ruling on December 22.
