Today, February 23, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court sentenced the former Deputy Minister of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Yuri Grimchak to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. He was taken into custody immediately in the courtroom.
According to the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the court found Grimchak guilty of committing such crimes as fraud, inciting to attempt to give a bribe to officials occupying a responsible and especially responsible position, and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The court changed Grimchak’s preventive measure to detention pending the entry into force of the sentence.
Before that, Grimchak was under night house arrest.
In addition, the VAKS satisfied the civil suit of the SAPO prosecutor to deduct almost UAH 980,000 of property damage from Grimchak. At the same time, the court additionally exacted another UAH 200,000 from the ex-deputy minister in legal costs.
The verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court can be appealed within 30 days from the date of its announcement in the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.
- August 14, 2019 Grimchak was detained NABU, he was told suspicion of fraud. NABU said that Grimchak and his assistant demanded a bribe of $1.1 million from a representative of a legal entity for influencing decision-making by persons authorized to perform state functions.
