Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Painter Discusses Complex Situation on Eastern Front, Says Russia Holds Advantage

Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Painterfollowing the statement of the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (FSU) Alexander Sirsky, also talks about the complex situation on the eastern frontthe BBC quoted her as saying.

“Key battles now continue in the eastern part (of the country),” Mallyar said on his Telegram channel, recalling that there are five directions in which the Russian army attacks: Kupyansko, Limansko, Bakhmutsko, Avdeevsko and Marinsko.

“At the moment, the most active offensive is in the areas of Avdeevka and Bakhmut. In both directions, the situation is extremely difficult, and near Avdeevka it is frankly dangerous,” Malyar believes. According to her, that is where “there is a risk” that the enemy will advance.

Painter recalled that Russia considers the Bakhmut direction strategic for access to the borders of the Donetsk region.

“This can be clearly seen if one analyzes how many forces are leading there and which ones exactly. So in the Bakhmut direction, the enemy is now using the most combat-ready units of right-wing and marines, as well as units formed from former prisoners,” she wrote.

Her assessment of the situation near Bakhmut echoes almost verbatim what the commander of the Ukrainian ground forces wrote in his telegram channel this morning.

Painter also echoed Sirski’s words that the balance of power on the eastern front is in favor of Russia: “Of course, the enemy has more weapons and men. But ours, in the conditions of exactly this ratio, are holding the defense – and it seems that the front is not moving anywhere and nothing is happening. As the reports say: the fighting continues.

This condition can last for at least several months, predicted the former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine. According to her, “to move the situation from this point,” it is necessary to increase “the number of weapons, equipment and men on the eastern front” and sooner than the enemy does.
