Former Indonesian Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum has been granted parole after spending over nine years in prison for corruption. Angelina Sondakh, another former party member who has also served a prison sentence for corruption, greeted him upon his release. Urbaningrum gave a speech to supporters at the prison entrance, inspiring Sondakh and others with his message of forgiveness and a continued fight for justice and truth. I Gede Pasek Suardika, who left the party over corruption scandals in 2013-14 and founded the Archipelago Awakening Party, believes Urbaningrum could become a central figure to attract voters in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
