Former Defense Minister Seo Wook and former Coast Guard Commissioner arrested and interrogated today

The decision on whether to arrest former Defense Minister Seo Wook and Kim Hong-hee, former head of the National Maritime Police Agency, who are key figures in suspected “manipulation of a public official murdered in the West Sea” will be decided today.

Seoul Central District Court Warrant Judge Kim Sang-woo will hold a substantive review of the arrest warrants for former Ministers Seo and Kim at 10:00 and 14:00, respectively, to examine the need for their arrest.

In September 2020, the former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries was accused of instructing the government to voluntarily defect to North Korea by the late Lee Dae-joon, a public official of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, in September 2020, and deleting confidential data are receiving information such as wiretapping from the military intelligence network and writing false information in the report of the joint chiefs of staff.

On the 13th, the Control and Inspection Commission announced that the Ministry of National Defense had canceled 60 military intelligence reports mounted on Mims under the instructions of former Minister Suh.

Former Commissioner Kim is accused of skewing the results of a drift prediction experiment and announcing the investigation results using unconfirmed evidence to convince Lee that he fled North Korea.

Prosecutors also charged with defamation of the lions when Kim Chung-jung announced the results of the interim investigation and informed the amount of Lee’s gambling debts.

A prosecutor explained: “Considering various circumstances such as the attitudes and actions of former Minister Seo and Kim during the investigation, it was determined that it was inevitable to quickly secure new recruits.”

In this regard, the former minister denied the allegations, saying: “Sensitive information is being disseminated through the military intelligence network, so distribution has been limited, but the original intelligence source has not been deleted.”
