Former CSKA Moscow Goalkeeper, Veniamin Mandrykin, Dies at 41

Veniamin Mandrykin belonged to CSKA Moscow for eight years.

The football career ended in 2010 – when he ran from the police in a drunken state and crashed into a tree.

Now the former goalkeeper is dead – he was 41 years old.

Veniamin Mandrykin passed away on August 6, reports the Russian website Sportbox.

According to the former CSKA goalkeeper’s sister, Zhanna Mandrykina, he died of a heart attack.

– The heart could no longer carry the burden caused by the long illness, she says according to Match TV.

Fleeing from the police

During his eight years in CSKA Moscow, there were 92 matches between the posts.

Football career came to a dramatic end in 2010.

Mandrykin was driving under the influence of alcohol and tried to flee from the police, which ended with him crashing into a tree at high speed.

The crash resulted in severe spinal injuries. In 2017 he became paralyzed in both legs, he also lost mobility in his hands.

Played in the national team

During the twelve-year professional career, Mandrykin made two senior international appearances for Russia.

Veniamin Mandrykin was 41 years old.
