– Former Constitutional Judge Ahn Chang-ho pointed out that “from a constitutional point of view, it is clearly violated” regarding the part of the government’s anti-coronavirus infection (Corona 19) quarantine measures related to face-to-face worship. It is argued that it violates the principle of prohibition of excess and even the principle of equality.
On the 17th, Judge Ahn attended a press conference hosted by the’Free Citizens’ Solidarity for Restoration of Worship’ at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul and made this claim. The Free Citizens’ Solidarity for Restoration of Worship opposed the government’s ban on face-to-face worship and filed a constitutional petition. Judge Ahn attended this as legal representative.
Ahn Jeon said, “Religious freedom is the most fundamental of the right to freedom.” He emphasized.
Judge Ahn explained that “religious freedom and spiritual freedom were directly related to the expression of individual character and realization of human dignity. Therefore, the constitution strongly protects religious and mental freedom far more than economic freedom.” .
He added, “Because church worship and Corona 19 are not related, (restrictions) must be lifted,” he said. “The principle of prohibiting face-to-face worship is a violation of the Constitution.”
He said, “It is not to ask for privileges, but to conduct constitutional and fair quarantine measures in accordance with the Constitution,” he said. “We demand that the quarantine against the church be done on a scientific and objective basis.” The safety judge also demanded equity in quarantine measures between the church and other multi-use facilities.
