Former congressman would have delivered $130 million to be favored in criminal proceedings • La Nación

A statement of charges was issued against the former representative to the Chamber, Argenis Velásquez Ramírez (2014 – 2018), for allegedly delivering 130 million pesos to an auxiliary magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, to be favored in a criminal process advanced in his against.

Apparently, the former congresswoman would have delivered that sum of money to the judicial official through her defense attorney, Luis Gustavo Moreno Rivera, to avoid a possible capture or a call to trial for the alleged appropriation of 300 million pesos when she served as mayor Orito, Putumayo, between 2009 and 2010.

The Public Ministry pointed out that the apparent action of the then congresswoman “It was a behavior that moved away from the public function and the trust that the citizens who chose her to represent them in the legislative body placed in her.”

The alleged conduct committed by Velásquez Ramírez was recounted in the statements made by Luis Gustavo Moreno Rivera in the criminal proceeding where the irregular conduct of different judicial officials was investigated, in what has been called the ‘toga cartel’.

For the Public Ministry, with her apparent actions, the former congresswoman would have violated the principle of administrative morality, since apparently she used “her position and function to break the law that she herself swore to comply with, using fraudulent maneuvers such as offering or paying sums of money to magistrates so that she would not be subject to criminal law.”

Due to this fact, the control body described his alleged conduct as a very serious offense committed by fraud.
