Former Congressman Ghulam Nabi Azad, who formed his own Democratic Progressive Azad Party, recently praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his generosity towards him and predicted that the Congress “won’t come to power for decades.” Azad recounted fond memories of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister and one of the tallest leaders of the BJP. Jairam Ramesh, the Congress’ communications in-charge, hit back at Azad, saying that he and Jyotiraditya Scindia have been huge beneficiaries of the Congress system and leadership. Azad was one of the leaders of G-23, a group of 23 in-house critics of the Congress who quit amid much bitterness last year, while Scindia left the Congress to join the BJP.
