Former Commander of Wagner PMC Detained in Sweden for Lack of Residence Right

The former commander of PMC “Wagner” Andrey Medvedev was detained on Thursday in Sweden. This is reported by Dagbladet.

According to the information available on Gulagu.net, the Russian traveled by bus from Norway to Sweden. The purpose of the trip he wanted to buy cigarettes.

“They told him that cigarettes cost half as much there,” the source noted.

He is detained because of the lack of right of residence in Sweden. He has the option to live only in Norway, but he did not catch the return bus.

Medvedev claims he did not know he was not supposed to leave Norway.

Now the 26-year-old is in the migration prison in Gothenburg. The city is located 180 kilometers from the border with Norway.

According to lawyers, this incident in no way it will not affect the case for granting political asylum on Medvedev in Norway.

He arrived in Norway at the beginning of the year to seek asylum. For the Norwegian authorities, however, Medvedev’s request for asylum has become a delicate diplomatic issue.

A human rights organization asked Norway to show understanding to the situation of the 26-year-old former commander, citing a traumatic childhood as well as the desire to escape “Wagner”.
