Former coach of French women’s handball team wins lawsuit and receives €180,000 in damages

Following his ousting from his position as coach of the French women’s team in 2016, Alain Portes had initiated proceedings before the Labor Courts to challenge his dismissal. The FFHB will have to pay the former Nîmes player the sum of €180,000, as the Midi Libre newspaper announced this evening for the damages suffered.

This is a case that will find its conclusion after 8 years and which throws a stone in the pond of the FFHB. Thanked the day after the 2015 world championship at the head of the Blue, when he had initially been supported by his DTN at the time, Alain Portes disputed since the beginning of the story the facts with which he was accused. Between the conspiracy of certain players against him, destabilization campaign on social networks… Alain Portes was dismissed from his post the day after a failed world championship and a deleterious atmosphere within a French team in bad shape. At first, the FFHB supported its coach but it only lasted a few weeks before Portes was notified of his dismissal.

As affirmed by the Midi Libre in its columns this evening, Alain Portes should receive the sum of 180,000 € in respect of the damages of which he was the victim (breach of contract, reminder of bonuses and salaries, indemnities, etc.). Since this affair, Alain Portes had made a stint in Besançon in the Proligue without too much success before taking the direction of Qatar in order to train the club of Al Duhail to finally lead the Algerian team between 2019 and 2021. He comes to release, for a few days, a book in homage to his father, “handball from father to son”, dedicated to Maurice Portes, figure of Occitan handball.
