Pathanamthitta: Akhil Sajevan (33), former secretary of CITU Pathanamthitta district office, was arrested in Vallikode Vettatheth, the main accused in the recruitment fraud case related to the health department. The special squad of Pathanamthitta DYSP arrested him from Theni in Tamil Nadu early yesterday morning. He was brought to Pathanamthitta station and interrogated under the leadership of District Police Chief V. Ajith. He will be produced in court today.

The arrest was made in a case registered by the Pathanamthitta police in July last year in the case of extorting Rs 3.60 lakh from CITU and in the case of extorting Rs 4 lakh from a native of Omallur by offering him a job in the Spices Board. Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police reached Pathanamthitta after registering a case related to recruitment fraud in the name of health department. Cantonment police will take custody for questioning in this case.
While in hiding, Akhil changed the SIM card of his mobile phone and used WhatsApp. Police followed by monitoring bank account information and ATM card usage. He said that he had no part in the fraud. He also said that his friends Rais, Lenin Raj and Basit kidnapped him and beat him up.

Akhil Sajevan gave a statement to the police that he had taken money from many people because he had huge debts. Haridas, the complainant, was not personally met in the recruitment scam in the name of the health department. Leninraj, Basit and Reis offered the job. The money was deposited in his bank account. This was handled by Leninraj and Basit. He appeared on social media because his life was threatened. Minister Veena George’s personal staff, Akhil Mathew, whom Haridasan accused of accepting bribes for appointments in the health department, is unknown. No one helped him stay in hiding. Meanwhile, the police found that there is no money in Akhil Sajeev’s account. It will also check whether the money has been withdrawn by anyone.
