former CIA chief called the conditions for ending the war in Ukraine

According to Michael Pompeo, if a lasting compromise is not reached in the Russian-Ukrainian war, the US is in danger of using tactical nuclear weapons.

Former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Michael Pompeo said that it is necessary to find a lasting and compromise settlement of the situation in the Russian-Ukrainian war, which would be acceptable to the citizens of Ukraine and Russia. A compromise is necessary because there is a greater threat of the use of tactical nuclear weapons, said Pompeo live on the political talk show The Rubin Report.

According to him, the war in Ukraine carries daily risks for the United States – the danger of the use of tactical nuclear weapons and possible cyber campaigns from Russia. At the same time, the former head of the CIA noted that the citizens of Ukraine need to be provided with a certain tool in order to defend themselves against the authoritarian regime. And if Ukraine is ready to defend its sovereignty at the front, then he himself is ready to help them defend themselves against a regime that leads to the killing of civilians.

“We need to find a solution that has two features. Firstly, it must be acceptable to the Russian people and the Ukrainian people. Secondly, we need to find a solution that would be durable,” Pompeo stressed.

However, in order to maintain relative stability, the former head of the CIA believes, the United States should not use military force, since this can be achieved in other ways, and quickly and efficiently.

“America has the opportunity to show its strength, but not soldiers, pilots or sailors, but to do it quickly and with meaningful results,” Pompeo added.

During a dialogue with host Dave Rubin, the former official agreed that it would be difficult to conclude such agreements, since Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the one hand, does not intend to retreat, having nuclear weapons behind him, on the other hand, he does not want to end up like Muammar Gaddafi.

“It will be difficult for both leaders… but they both need to find ways in which they can move on. If each of them fights to maintain their power, then Ukrainians and Russians will look back and say, “look what happened to our countries” Therefore, I think we should focus not on individuals, but on the system,” the former head of the CIA is convinced.

Recall that Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin, in an interview with the Russian edition of Izvestia on January 29, said that at the moment involvement of the UN in negotiations on ending the war with Ukraine is impossible. According to him, the reason for this is the trust in the secretariat of the organization, which was largely undermined due to the long inactivity of international officials.
