[北京 22日 ロイター] – Chinese state media reported on the 22nd that Fu Zhenghua, a former justice minister and senior public security official, was sentenced to life in prison for taking bribes. There is a possibility that the purge will intensify before the Communist Party Congress.

Fu was sentenced to death with suspended sentence. If there is no problem, the sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment after two years. There is no possibility of probation.

He served as deputy director of the Ministry of Public Security and was appointed minister of justice in 2018. He admitted taking more than 117 million yuan (US $ 16.5 million) in bribes in July.

He is also said to have joined the “political group” of Sun Lijun, a former Deputy Minister of Public Security who admitted to corruption.

Mr. Son was accused of not accepting the authority of President Xi Jinping. Mr. Son’s influence was so pervasive within the Communist Party that the authorities considered him a “cancer” to get rid of.

Three senior police officers from the provinces of Shanghai, Chongqing and Shanxi were also sentenced to prison terms on Monday for corruption. Like Mr. Fu, he belonged to Mr. Sun’s group and was criticized by Mr. Xi for being unfaithful.
