TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Former Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin ask President Joko Widodo or Jokowi he doesn’t often invite political party leaders, especially when discussing the 2024 presidential election. According to Din, Jokowi’s stance is far from being a statesman.
Din said Jokowi was no longer a cawe-chawe, but took part in organizing. He said there was still time to correct this.
“Pak Jokowi should not often invite political parties, let alone what is being discussed in the presidential election. So these are no longer couples, but arrangements have been made,” said Din at his residence, Cilandak, South Jakarta, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Din’s statement was made in response to signs of destructive political practices, namely the politics of obstruction. As a supporter of a presidential candidate Anies BaswedanDin admitted that he felt the attempt on both Anies and the Coalition for Change for Unity.
Din explained, the party carrying out this political tackle was trying to find fault with the opponent in order to discredit political opponents. He criticized the attempt to tackle this because it was far from political ethics.
“I order to stop these methods, be ready to compete fairly and honestly. I warn those in power now not to get involved in presidential nomination politics,” he said.

President Jokowi has twice gathered with political parties supporting the government, except for the NasDem which has declared Anies as a presidential candidate. The first meeting was held at the PAN DPP Office on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
At that time, Jokowi attended a friendly gathering with the general chairmen of political parties supporting the government. The general chairmen who were present included, the General Chairperson of PAN Zukifli Hasan; General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto; Chairman of the National Awakening Party Muhaimin Iskandar; Ketum of the United Development Party M. Mardiono; and the chairman of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening, 2 May 2023, President Jokowi gathered the General Chairmen of the government coalition political parties, without the NasDem Party, at the Palace. Jokowi said the reason for not inviting the NasDem was because he already had his own coalition, namely the Coalition for Change for Unity.
Previously, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto denied that the meeting between Ketum political parties discussed practical politics. According to him, the President and the Ketum discussed more on the continuity of the policy going forward.
“And it’s a natural thing for a leader to talk about how to lead in the future so that there is continuity,” said Hasto at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Monday, May 8, 2023.
In order to realize an understanding on sustainability, said Hasto, dialogue between the Ketum of political parties and the President is needed. Therefore, they were gathered in the Palace.
Nevertheless, he denied that the assembly would also discuss the presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election. He said the President and Ketum political parties tended to discuss demographic bonuses and plans to move the national capital.
“We have had a lot of experience since the beginning in distinguishing between practical political affairs, which matters are related to the interests of the nation and the state,” he said.
