Only less than a month remains until the opening of the former Central cinema to the public. This was transformed into a multi-functional hall equipped with modern technology during the extensive renovation. The new premises will be used by the Olomouc Art Museum (MUO) and later also by SEFO to host theater performances, film screenings, concerts and balls.

The interiors of the former Central cinema are currently being finished. The floors are finished, work is still being done on acoustic tiles, plinths and moldings.
“Installation of sensors and lighting is also underway. The new space of the Museum of Art will be opened to the public for the first time on Tuesday, February 20 as part of special tours, the capacity is already full. On Saturday, February 24, we are holding a ball, visitors can look forward to a fashion show of Dorota Długosz’s models, which were created according to the drawings of the art brut artist Irena Bilkowska. Tickets are still on sale,” said Alexandr Jeništa, head of the MUO production department.
A designer has already been selected for SEFO. When will he stand in prolucu?
Classic, semi-arena and chamber hall
The new spaces allow for different configurations of both the auditorium and the stage layout. It can be turned into a classic peephole theater hall, also a so-called semi-arena, or converted into a small chamber space.
“From a technical point of view, it is very well equipped for theater operation, even above standard. Thanks to this, we can also organize dance performances and concerts of bands of international importance, which already require a certain type of technique. This medium-sized hall is unique in Olomouc,” emphasized Alexandr Jeništa.

Throughout the year, theater performances, film screenings and concerts will take place in Central. The new premises will also be used by a puppet stage, and various events related to the AFO, Jeden svět, Divadelní Flora, Das Filmfest, Days of Jewish Culture and the Václav Burian Prize festivals will take place there. The film club will also move from Mozarteum to the multifunctional hall from September.
“We will be very happy if viewers find their way here not only out of curiosity, but also for the program we are preparing for them. They won’t find a culture of ordinary entertainment here, which I think is enough all around us. We are concerned with high-quality theatrical and musical art, often in the sense of experiments and untried things,” described the head of the production department, Alexandr Jeništa.
Closer cooperation will take place with the Moravian Theater in Olomouc, productions intended directly for Central should be created.

Three new scenes are created
The last film projection in the Central cinema took place in 2005, the hall with the background was then closed for a long time. The demanding reconstruction dragged on mainly due to problems with disturbed building statics and groundwater. A total of three new scenes are created in the building.
“A large stage located on the site of the former Central Cinema. The small stage will be one floor higher, in the former Music Theatre. The rehearsal room is also new, it will be in operation in the former preparation room for the cafe, where the well-known Radiobar operated in the 1920s and 1940s,” explained Alexandr Jeništa, adding that the costs gradually rose to almost one hundred million crowns, financed by the Ministry of Culture.
