The Ethics Council of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) today suspended, for two, coach Emerson da Silva, who led the Brazilian track cycling team until last year. The case will be forwarded to the civil police of Rio de Janeiro.

Emerson is suspended for two years from “exercising any functions within the Olympic Movement, including COB and Olympic Confederations”, being prohibited from “exercising any function within the entire Brazilian Olympic system”. The CBC (Brazilian Cycling Confederation) received a recommendation to “review and improve its internal communication systems, governance, prevention of incidents of harassment and abuse, and assistance to victims”.

In June, UOL Esporte revealed, firsthand, a complaint of sexual harassment against him. An athlete, whose name is kept confidential, reported that, in 2018, when she was 18 years old and an athlete on the Brazilian team, she suffered an attempted rape by Emerson. The reports are strong, and can be read here. The content is sensitive.
