Former coach of Bremen and Wolfsburg: Florian Kohfeldt is to become the new coach of AS Eupen
The search for a coach at AS Eupen got into the hot phase last week: while there were initially three candidates in the running, the shortlist shrank to just two coaches by the weekend. Now a final decision may have been made: According to GE information, Florian Kohfeldt will take over the team. This information has not yet been officially confirmed.
With Florian Kohfeldt, AS Eupen would not only land a well-known transfer on their bench, but also cause a big surprise with the commitment of the former Bundesliga coach. Most recently, the 40-year-old was one of the top candidates at Hertha BSC, among others.
Kohfeldt was under contract with VfL Wolfsburg until May 2022. Previously he was head coach of Werder Bremen for four years (142 games). In his first year at the Weser, he saved Werder from relegation before the team narrowly missed qualifying for the Europa League. In 2019 Kohfeldt was named “Coach of the Year 2018”. Two years later, Bremen parted ways with Kohfeldt, who is credited with possessing the ball well and having an excellent understanding of tactics.

Kohfeldt’s tenure at VfL Wolfsburg was significantly shorter: After a messed-up season or just seven months after taking up the post (28 games/nine wins, five draws, 14 defeats), he had to pack his bags again in June 2022.
AS Eupen started preparations for the new season on Monday. First, the players completed medical examinations and fitness tests. In the coming week, the team will be on the training ground for the first time. The 2023-24 schedule will be unveiled in Tubize on June 22nd, with the season opening the weekend of July 28th.
The GE information has not yet been officially confirmed.
